As well as being a characteristic feature of the English rural landscape, hedgerows are a very important habitat for wildlife including butterflies, moths, birds, bats and many small mammals.
Your donation will go directly towards planting 10 hedgerow shrubs forming new hedgerows on the Northmoor Trust Estate.
Hedge laying is a traditional management technique to maintain barriers around fields. The process of cutting and bending plants sideways stimulates stem growth to create a dense stock-proof barrier.
Your donation will go directly towards laying 1 metre of hedgerow creating a habitat for small birds, animals and insects.
Due to habitat loss, Great Crested Newt populations are declining in many areas.
We have around 3,000 Great Crested Newts on the reserve and carry out important monitoring work. Our ponds have newt- friendly 'traps' installed to capture newts moving to and from the ponds, allowing us to monitor newt health and track movements.
Your donation will go directly towards helping to conserve and monitor our newt population.
Bats need warm, dry homes to roost in, and at the Northmoor Trust we're helping by installing Woodcrete boxes.
Your donation will go towards boxes placed around Hill Farm and the Reserve to help reinforce the number of bats in the area.
Nest boxes are placed around our estate to help visiting birds find a secure place to rear their young. By sponsoring a nest box you will help more birds, such as Great Tits and Blue Tits, to find a happy home.
The Trust's flock of 50 Beulah Speckled-Face sheep are often seen grazing on the Clumps. The flock is essential for grassland management and encouraging the spread of wild flowers.
Your donation will go directly towards the cost of maintaining our flock that help encourage wild flowers back to the meadows.
