Leylines around the Wittenham Clumps
It has been suggested that the Clumps lie on a 'ley line' (an alignment of sacred sites) crossing southern England from St Michaels Mount in Cornwall, via Glastonbury and Avebury, to the Norfolk coast.
- The alignment points to the rising sun on the Celtic feastday of Beltane (Mayday).
- Dowsers claim to have traced two invisible serpentine energy lines which follow this alignment. These two lines, linking sites dedicated either to St Michael or St Mary, represent male and female energies respectively. One passes through St Michaels church in Clifton Hampden, the other through St Mary’s church in Long Wittenham . Their crossing points or nodes have particularly sacred significance.
- Castle Hill is the only such nodal point in Oxfordshire.
