Settlement

Alternating growth and decline in agricultural production led to cycles of settlement growth, stagnation, abandonment and re-occupation. These settlement histories are now being revealed through integration of archaeological and historical techniques.

At present there is increasing pressure to develop new housing on former agricultural land.
