Wittenham Clumps Wildlife Appeal 2008

Together, we can help wildlife flourish on the Clumps

Wittenham Clumps, right here on your doorstep, could soon become an important home to some of our favourite and most precious wildlife, but we need your support to make this happen.

Project Aims
The aim of the Wittenham Clumps Wildlife Appeal is to restore and recreate 37 hectares of wildlife-rich lowland meadow on and around the Wittenham Clumps.

This exciting project will involve sowing wildflower seeds, increasing the beauty and diversity of the landscape and restoring habitats for a number of our nationally threatened species such as the pipistrelle bat, hornet robberfly and skylark. The land will come alive with hares bounding and the song of skylark filling the air.

We need to raise £15,000 by 18th May 2008 - the deadline has been extended
This project can only succeed with your support. The Trust has already approached local authorities, landfill operators and local businesses and raised the majority needed. We now urgently need to raise the remaining £15,000 by 18th May 2008 - our deadline has been extended by one month. Each and every donation can make a real difference!

Your donation will help pay for:
£10 - two metres of stock fencing
£25 - a bag of wildflower seeds
£100 - a water trough for cattle
£500 - a field gate
£1,000 - care of an acre of the Wittenham Clumps landscape

You can also help by distributing appeal leaflets and telling friends, families and work colleagues about what we are trying to do.

What will happen if we don’t act now?
If immediate action is not taken to restore species-rich grassland at the Clumps, it is likely that existing pockets of species-rich habitat will gradually decline and could disappear forever. It would be a tremendous lost opportunity for wildlife.

The importance of the Wittenham Clumps
The Wittenham Clumps are a much-loved landmark and beauty spot just south of Oxford on the banks of the River Thames. Visited by 150,000 people every year, it is the second most visited public open space in the county. In addition to its wildlife and landscape interest, the site includes an important Iron Age hill fort.
