Footpath Improvement
The project has improved footpath links between Long and Little Wittenham and will enhance local wildlife habitats. This Northmoor Trust project has been designed to make natural connections between fragmented wildlife habitats and public access connections between local communities and green spaces.
Enhancing Habitats
The Trust’s conservation work on the estate protects and enhances habitat for species under threat including the great crested newt and other breeding amphibians, raptors and barn owls.
By expanding scrub and wetland habitats out from the nature reserve and into a productive agricultural landscape, this project will help create links to other habitats in the wider landscape. This approach is widely acknowledged as being vital for the long-term conservation of threatened species.
New Link Between Long Wittenham & Wittenham Clumps
Sitting within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the new footpath link will run from Neptune Wood in Long Wittenham to the Clumps at Little Wittenham - stitching together two iconic and well-visited features of the Northmoor Trust estate.
Crucially, the route will provide a suitable footpath for local residents, as an alternative to walking along the road.
The new footpath is open from April 2008, and will form part of the Trust’s improved access routes across its estate.
Trust's Volunteer Team
The Trust’s volunteer teams have played an integral part in the delivery of the work on the ground, and so the Trust wishes to thank everyone for their hard work and commitment.
