World clean up day at Little Wittenham
World Clean Up day comes to little Wittenham!
Northmoor Trust and Holiday Inn together think globally, clean locally
Staff from the Holiday Inn in Oxford are donning their gloves to join in the United Nations Environment Programme International Clean Up weekend, taking place on the Northmoor Trust estate in Little Wittenham.
The waste clean up initiative involves staff from all parts of the hotel who are swapping room cleaning for the ditches and ramparts of the beautiful Wittenham Clumps.
The weekend, which involves staff giving up their free time, is part of the hotel chain’s “Winning Ways” campaign. The campaign seeks to set high standards of customer and community care and involves the staff reaching out into the local area.
The litter pick, which takes place at the famous Wittenham Clumps, between Wallingford and Didcot, is part of the Northmoor Trust’s management its 700 acre estate. During the weekend, community groups and individuals across every continent will be heading out in small groups with friends and family to clean up their local parks, beaches, streets and neighbourhoods. Under the initiative, their activities and results will make history by being posted as photo’s and videos onto Google map – therefore giving a global platform to every local initiative.
Alison Lee, Community Engagement Assistant for the Northmoor Trust said, “We are delighted to be hosting a group of staff from the Holiday Inn to assist us in what is an important and ongoing task. With over 150,000 visits to the iconic Wittenham Clumps every year we unfortunately have to deal with the aftermath of the minority who leave their mark in an unfortunate way.”
Shaun Macaskill, Food and Beverage Manager for the Holiday Inn added, “The Holiday Inn is committed to taking action to reduce our environmental impact, whilst at the same time involving our staff and customers in positive action. We are delighted to be working with the Northmoor Trust with the important work they are doing.”
