Plans are being drawn up by the Northmoor Trust to protect the future of a wildlife haven at Radley in Oxfordshire. As well protecting the area’s wildlife value the Trust is also looking at plans to improve access for people including the provision of a community resource and wetland centre at the site.

Everyone is welcome to drop in to the White Horse Leisure Centre Foyer, Abingdon on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd December between 3pm – 7pm to help form the Northmoor Trust’s exciting plans for Thrupp Lake.

Visitors will have the chance to see sketches outlining some of the proposals for the development of the Sandles property at Radley Lakes. The Northmoor Trust has been asked to look at the Sandles building alongside Thrupp Lake to consider options for its future use, perhaps as an educational resource with outdoor learning space where people can look at habitat creation and interpretation.

Everyone dropping in to the consultation meeting will have the opportunity to complete a questionnaire to submit their suggestions for the Radley Wetland Centre. The questionnaire survey can also be completed online.

Last year npower announced that it was no longer intending to fill Thrupp Lake, part of Radley Lakes, with ash from Didcot Power Station; instead, Thrupp Lake was to become a haven for wildlife. Northmoor Trust has been chosen as ‘wildlife partner’ for the future management of Thrupp Lake.

Harry Barton, Northmoor Trust Chief Executive, said: “This is a tremendously exciting opportunity. Thrupp Lake is a beautiful site with a lot of demands on it. Our proposals will aim to strike the best possible balance between the needs of people and wildlife. We are now working on costed plans for all aspects of the area, and we look forward to discussing these with npower and the local community over the coming months.”
