The Mayor of Abingdon's sponsored ascent of the Wittenham Clumps

The Mayor of Abingdon, Councillor Patrick Lonergan, raises £500 from his sponsored ascent of Clumps

The Mayor's ascent, which took place on Sunday 27th July between 10am and 3pm, has so far raised £500 for Abingdon Hospital League of Friends & Abingdon Charities Working Together.

Councillor Lonergan ascended the hill at Wittenham Clumps 25 times, covering 1375 metres (more than the height of Ben Nevis) in 5 1/2 hours.

The Mayor was joined by two of his cadets Corporal Matthew Scott from Abingdon Detachment ACF and Ordinary Cadet Harry Younge from Abingdon Sea Cadets who were both completing the challenge too. The two Mayor’s Cadets climbed for 2.5 and 3 hours and managed 6 and 8 ascents respectively for their personal challenges.
