Northmoor Trust hosts multicultural farm visit

The Northmoor Trust is set to host a special day of estate visits in a unique multicultural partnership.

The visits, part of a series set up with LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), will involve large groups of inner city families on a broad range of site activities.

This initiative is part of a DEFRA project to increase awareness of access possibilities on farms in SE England and will give visitors a real insight into ways they can enjoy the countryside.

Specialist advisors from LEAF, Natural England, Oxfordshire County Council and the Northmoor Trust will lead groups throughout the day to explain where visitors can find information on how to access the countryside; the importance of farming in the landscape; the wildlife that can be seen and the activities that are suitable for all the family.

The day for most will start with a coach trip from the Asian Cultural Centre in Cowley Road, Oxford, with arrival at Hill Farm in mid morning. Once on the Northmoor Trust estate groups will be guided out onto the Farm and Wittenham Clumps.

The visit will give the opportunity to learn at first hand from specialists on hand, enjoy the countryside around and participate in activities for children.

John Sargent, Head of Land Management at the Northmoor Trust said, 'The Northmoor Trust has always had education and demonstration at the heart of its core objectives. With this exciting initiative we are glad to be able to offer opportunities to people who would not normally get out into a landscape as beautiful as the 300 hectares we manage here at Little Wittenham.
