Land, people, ecology

Project Timescape

Get set for some first class travel from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age, and from the Roman period through to present day and beyond.

Project Timescape, the Northmoor Trust’s new Education Centre, opens at Little Wittenham in autumn 2006. The interactive centre will bring the landscape alive exploring the relationship between people and the land.

Exhibits will include Iron Age, Saxon and Tudor settlements, finds from archaeological digs, archaeological pits and interactive displays.

This Centre will cater for Primary and Secondary Schools, the general public and other interested groups.

The new visitor centre will provide innovative learning opportunities linking with the Trust’s work on Little Wittenham Nature Reserve, a conservation farm and a new woodland dedicated to forestry research.

The curriculum will be presented in an exciting and innovative way with students taking part in:
  • archaeological investigations
  • scientific experiments, re-enacting the past
  • hands on activities
  • solving the mysteries of the past and learning about the challenges we face today.

  • Travelling to 2080 will allow us to look at possible futures. Through investigations, debates and decision making, students will gain a deep understanding of climate change, pollution and sustainable development.
We believe that all our visitors will leave feeling enriched and empowered.

<br /> Project Timescape has been designed to allow students to lead their own learning.

We will be working with all primary curriculum subjects, but especially science, geography, history, numeracy, PSHE and literacy.

For secondary schools we will specifically be catering for Geography, Science and History students.

Teachers will be able to choose from a number of curriculum themed visits and we can provide preparatory and follow up lesson plans. Your visit will be supported with education officers who will visit your school and prepare for, or follow up, your day at Project Timescape.

All of these activities will be supported by an extensive website that will include supporting material for teachers and activities for students.
