The Farm

Land was purchased between 1991 and 1993 and now covers 164ha, comprising 15ha of permanent grassland and 149ha of arable.

All the arable is farmed under contract arrangement, where operations and inputs are paid for by the Trust and income generated is returned to the Trust. The soils on the farm are classified as grade 2/3 and soil type ranges from medium to heavy clay loam. The average rainfall for the area is 611mm per annum.

The three main enterprises are:

• 100 hectares of arable comprising winter wheat, spring peas, winter barley and winter oilseed rape. Crops are grown using integrated crop management principles.
• A flock of 400 breeding ewes on permanent pasture and temporary leys. Lamb is sold directly to the public via farmers markets.
