Forestry
Developing the foremost centre in the UK for broadleaved tree improvment and promotion of high quality timber production.
The Northmoor Trust purchased 55 hectares (136 acres) of land in south Oxfordshire in 1991, purposely to establish a new woodland and to develop a centre for forestry research. Today, some 50,000 trees and more than 15 forestry trials, the project remains only half complete.
The key objectives of the project are to:
- develop and build on the national leadership in forestry research with walnut and oak species;
- develop the research and forestry demonstration functions of Paradise Wood;
- develop our ability to use Paradise Wood to demonstrate the national biodiversity benefits of managing broadleaved plantations for timber production;
- promote the importance of the forestry industry within a sustainable countryside;
- review progress and maintain awareness of opportunities for research, development, funding and national influence.
