The Big Dig! Week Two
Week 2 : July 19th 2003
The Northmoor Trust formally launched the start of the archaeology programme on Castle Hill. The Chief Executive of the Northmoor Trust, Mr Ian Rowland-Hill presents the Senior Project Manager from Oxford Archaeology with a gift to mark the formal start of the archaeology programme.
It has been a successful week with some good archaeology earlier in to the programme. The archaeologists have experienced a mixture of weather, from a heatwave to rain and gales. The Trust is delighted with the number of local volunteers who have assisted in the Dig. More are always welcome. Please find the details of who to contact on the Big Dig page if you are interested.
Digging in the main trench uncovered a Roman skeleton. The initial examination suggests it is a woman in her early twenties. More details on this to follow.
