The Big Dig! Week Two

Week 2 : July 19th 2003

The Chief Executive of the Northmoor Trust, Mr Ian Rowland-Hill presents the Senior Project Manager from Oxford Archaeology with a gift to mark the formal start of the archaeology programme.

It has been a successful week with some good archaeology earlier in to the programme. The archaeologists have experienced a mixture of weather, from a heatwave to rain and gales. The Trust is delighted with the number of local volunteers who have assisted in the Dig. More are always welcome. A body of a woman, probably Roman, is finally revealed complete with pottery placed in handsDigging in the main trench uncovered a Roman skeleton. The initial examination suggests it is a woman in her early twenties. More details on this to follow.
